How do I cite NLS data?

For the convenience of researchers, we provide the following suggested citations for NLS data in text and in references. Users should note that the references include years and round numbers and should be adjusted according to the actual data being used. Please contact NLS User Services if you have any questions.

In text:

The NLSY79 survey is sponsored and directed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and conducted by the Center for Human Resource Research at The Ohio State University. Interviews are conducted by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago.

The Mature and Young Women surveys are sponsored and directed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and conducted by the Center for Human Resource Research at The Ohio State University. Interviews are conducted by the Census Bureau.
